Dear Hamilton families,
We are so excited to welcome our students and families back to learning on Monday, August 31! Although we will spend the first nine weeks of our school year in distance learning, I want you to know that the Hamilton team is still here to support your child in his or her learning journey. I know that you likely have many questions about what the school year will look and feel like, and I hope that this message will help you prepare for a strong start to the year ahead.
Your child’s distance learning experience will include a combination of real-time instruction using Zoom, self-directed learning and activities accessed through our Canvas digital learning platform, and opportunities for intentional play and physical activity. Distance learning does not mean that your child will sit in front of a computer screen all day.
At Hamilton our instructional day - even in distance learning - will begin at 7:30am and end at 3:11pm. While our distance learning program is designed to be flexible based on the needs of each of our families, it is important that your child attend his or her live classes as much as possible. Not only do live classes give your child a chance to ask questions in real-time, but these are also opportunities for students to stay connected with their peers. At Hamilton, each student will be provided a daily/weekly visual schedule. The student experiences will include:
· Morning Meeting on Zoom 7:30-8:00am
· Brain Breaks
· Read Alouds
· Independent Online Time on Iread or Exact Path
· Independent Work Time
· Music and PE Time Live and Recorded on Zoom
· Zoom Small Group Time
· 1:1 Progress and Feedback Conversations and Check-Ins
· Zoom Live and Recorded Sessions for Core Subjects
· Zoom Live and Recorded Sessions for ELD, ESS, Gifted Services (for students in these programs)
· Optimistic Closure on Zoom 2:45-3:11pm
Please save the date of August 31st for our Drive Up Day and our Virtual Meet the Teacher. On this day there will be various times that you can drive up to receive all you will need for a successful distance learning. School supplies, technology are just a couple items you will receive. Prior to August 31st, you will receive a zoom link for you to access for the Virtual Meet the Teacher on that same day at various times. More information to come.
You can find general information about distance learning in our district at www.tulsaschools.org/distancelearning.
