Tucker Hopper named Hamilton Teacher of the Year

Tucker Hopper has been selected as the 2024-2025 Hamilton Elementary Teacher of the Year!

This is Tucker's fourth year as the 3rd grade English language arts teacher at Hamilton. He is also the Student Council sponsor, expanded learning liaison, and site asset manager. He has served as an assistant camp director for Ready. Set. Summer! as well.

We asked Tucker a few questions to learn more about him and his time at Tulsa Public Schools.

Why did you want to work in education?

The decision to step into education came from my previous investigative position with Oklahoma Human Services. I worked with an extraordinary team out of the Child Advocacy Center here in Tulsa and that opportunity helped me discover my passion for working with kids. Walking into the classroom, I knew I would be able to continue youth work, but with whole-hearted and illuminating intent.

Can you tell me a bit about your time in Tulsa Public Schools?

One of the most valuable things I've learned during my time here at TPS is that learning opportunities are abundant for both students and teachers. I've created the most spectacular relationships with students and their families both in and out of the classroom. Our expanded learning opportunities within the district, as well as our collaborative efforts with organizations like The Opportunity Project, deliver engaging, high-quality and unique experiences for students and staff. From after school clubs to Ready. Set. Summer!, there is ample opportunity for teachers to tune in and really make a difference. I will be forever grateful for opportunities like that!

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I am passionate about the arts. If I'm not in the classroom, I'm probably out at a concert, in a theater, or reading a book. I live for the escapism and exploring the imagination offered by various artistic avenues.

Is there anything else you would like everyone to know?

I'd like to take the opportunity to remind the public that I am just a tiny piece of the Team Tulsa puzzle. I remain blessed and grateful to work alongside such remarkable individuals both here at Hamilton and throughout the district. The unbroken commitment displayed in the classroom, to the students and throughout the community is unlike anything I've ever been a part of.
